Jeffrey Butts
I will miss Ned so much. I knew him only in a professional context, but he has been part of my life since the late 1980s. I did several projects with him and saw him at dozens of conferences and meetings over the years. Ned was always kind to me, always interested to hear about the latest developments in my research career, and reliably generous and funny. I'd see him from across the room at some conference hotel and his eyes would twinkle and I knew I was about to have an enjoyable conversation with a lovely and incredibly decent man. You helped me to shape my professional self, Ned. Thanks. I already miss that twinkle in your eyes.
