Madelyn E. Lendall, age 100 of Winchester, MA died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at home.

Born in Boston, March 12, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Horace Elmer Lendall and Marie Elizabeth (Smalling) Lendall. During her lifetime, she resided in Medford, Arlington, Stoneham, Peabody and most recently at The Gables of Winchester in MA. She was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1935. In 1938 with a major in Dental Hygienistry, Madelyn graduated from Forsyth Dental Infirmary, then affiliated with Tufts and Harvard Universities, passing state boards at the age of twenty.

Initially employed during WWII by Dr. Harold Kent, a Harvard professor and oral surgeon, she soon became his dental assistant and office manager at the Deaconess Hospital Dental Clinic in Boston, MA working with various oral surgeons spanning a career of 44 years during which time she became affectionately known as “Lindy”. In 1982 Madelyn left the Dental Clinic to set up and organize the new Out-Patient Laboratory at the Deaconess for pre-operative patients where she worked in hematology until 1985, retiring to care for her aging mother.

Madelyn had a keen mind, was very well read and enjoyed discussing a wide range of topics including health issues, politics, business and investing. In her youth she loved to dance and sing, but above all, she valued learning, friendship and family.

In addition to friends, she leaves her cousins, Beverly Nichols of Medfield, MA., her son Steven Nichols and wife Angela of San Carlos,CA; Barbara Tupper and husband Charles of Medfield, MA, their children Robert Tupper of West Ossipee, NH, Christine Nippert and husband Robert of Salem, NH, and Barbara Lynn Ingalls and husband Jon of Windham, ME; and a cousin by marriage, Ellen McGaffigan of Waltham, MA, her daughters, Marianne McGaffigan of Waltham, MA and Jill McGaffigan and husband Steven Votruba of Winchester MA.

Visiting hours will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St. Winchester, MA on Saturday November 10th from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM with funeral services immediately following. Burial is at the Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Madelyn’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
