Obituary for Barbara A. Spencer

Barbara A. Spencer
Spencer, Barbara Ann (Donovan) passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 30, 2018 in Littleton, NH. Born to the late Frederick Donovan and Dorothy (Murphy) Donovan on July 1, 1955 in Winchester, MA, she leaves behind children; Patrick and wife Mary Spencer with children Liam and Peter of Winchester, MA, Michael Spencer of Winchester, MA, and Kevin Spencer of Franconia, NH. She joins her husband, Patrick J Spencer Sr in eternal rest along with her parents, her Aunt Marjorie Murphy and Uncles Charles McPhearson and Robert Murphy. She is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Barbara grew up and lived through retirement in Winchester, MA. She was a devoted mother and housewife, volunteering while her boys attended at Lynch Elementary school in any way possible, and in later years staying on as a lunch aide. She drove the bus for the North Reading Transportation Company for several years until she retired and moved up to Franconia NH, a lifelong dream she shared with her husband. During retirement, she found friends while working part time at Indian Head Resort in the gift shop, as well as the local town store clerk. She enjoyed spending time with new friends she considered family up in Franconia. She loved her grandchildren more than anything in this world! She never missed an opportunity to spoil them, whether it be a birthday or holiday, or just coming to pick one of them up for a weekend at Grammas!

She was always ready with kind words, jokes, funny stories, and never-ending teasing! Her bubbly smile and personality were contagious. There was never a quick hello when you ran into her. Continually making plans with old friends, no matter which state they lived, Barbara made herself available to host you in her beloved town of Franconia. From her first bear friend Frankie, to her love of the Old Man, to her buddies down at Joes, she lived and breathed the log cabin, mountain living, life! When you saw that crazy hat – generally with lights and/or music – on that smiling face coming your way, you knew a special friend was on her way to make your day! A match made in heaven, she certainly loved you, as did Patrick, with her whole heart!

Visiting hours will be held at Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main Street (Rte. 38) in Winchester on Sunday, September 9th from 4-8pm with a funeral mass to be celebrated at Saint Eulalia Church at 50 Ridge Street, Winchester, MA at 10am on Monday September 10th.
