Obituary for John N. McMillan

John N.  McMillan
McMillan, John Neil (78) of Houston, TX, formerly of Everett, Lynnfield and West Dennis, MA, passed away unexpectedly on August 22, 2018. Loving husband for 45 years of the late Barbara J. (Bell) McMillan. Devoted father of Kerri A. (McMillan) and her husband Frank J. Vittimberga of Wilton Manors, FL, and Kim A. (McMillan) and her husband Seth I. Rubinson of Houston, TX. Adoring grandfather of Ryan, Max, Noah and Ella. Brother of Jean M. Matucchio, Thomas McMillan, Leo McMillan, and predeceased by his siblings, Evelyn Sutera and Philip McMillan. John was a dedicated scientific glassblower for MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Bedford for almost 50 years. John served in the United States Army and was stationed in Berlin during the Berlin Crisis, receiving a Medal of Commendation. John lived a life filled with profound love, devotion and pride in his wife, children, and grandchildren which was apparent to everyone blessed to know him. He was a man of few words who loved to just sit and listen. John was known for his broad scope of knowledge of many topics, including history and nature, and loved to impart his knowledge to his grandchildren. John's love for animals, especially his cats and his children's dogs, was an important part of his life that will be dearly missed. Visiting hours will be held at the Lane Funeral Home 760 Main St. (Rte. 38) WINCHESTER on Sunday, September 9th from 2-4pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A graveside service will be held at The VA National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Monday at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to The Tuttle School at Briarwood (the special needs school of granddaughter Ella), 12207 Whittington Drive, Houston, TX 77077.
