DULCHINOS, John of Winchester passed away on April 16, 2018. He was 90 years old. A gentle and honest man who will be remembered for his integrity, loyalty, devotion to his family and his intense love for learning. He was a true renaissance man whose curiosity never faded.

John was born at home in Chicopee, Massachusetts into a close-knit Greek family. Growing up in Chicopee, he was surrounded by extended family including his grandmother, aunts, uncles and beloved cousins with whom he had many memorable adventures. He inherited his curiosity and strong work ethic from his father, George, who immigrated to the US at 12 years old, learned near flawless English and worked his way up from a shoe shine boy to a successful businessman and active member of the community. Both his father and his mother, Angeline (Ladopoulos) instilled the values of hard work, integrity, honesty, loyalty and compassion in him, principles which guided him throughout his life and which he instilled in his children.

From the time he was a small child, John was intensely curious about how things worked. He loved school, especially science and math. After taking a three-hour math exam, which he remembered as being fun, he was accepted by MIT where he studied Electrical Engineering and earned his bachelor and masters degrees.

After graduating, he remained in Cambridge, embarking on a long and fulfilling career as an engineer. He worked for many different companies including Raytheon, GCA and MITRE. He started his own company, Epsilon Laboratories with two friends in the 1970s. John loved what he did and never considered it work. His career lasted well into his 70s.

In 1958, he met his future wife, Maria (Pappajohn) at a dance. They married in 1959. Living in Lexington and then Winchester, they had three sons, George, John and Michael, and a daughter, Alexandra. He was a devoted husband and a caring and patient father who was always interested in what his children were doing. He enjoyed coaching their Little League baseball teams and being a scoutmaster for their Boy Scout troop. He was especially interested in their schoolwork, and would always make time to help them with their homework, sometimes passing up the answer by trying to teach them calculus well before they were in high school. He was very handy and could fix anything in the house. If something broke, you could give it to him at night and it would be fixed in the morning.

He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them at all stages of their lives from babies to teenagers to adults. He loved family gatherings where he could visit with them and learn all about their adventures and what they were learning in school.

John was predeceased by his wife Maria P. (Pappajohn) Dulchinos. He is survived by his children: George J. and his wife Thomaseth of PA, John D. and his wife Lisa of CA, Michael P. and his wife Darlene of Lancaster, and Alexandra M. and her husband James Benninger of Newton; and by his grandchildren: Alexander, Nicholas, Carissa, Danielle, Ian, Matthew, Charles, Evan and Katherine. He was the dear brother of Dionysius “Dan” Dulchinos and Peter Dulchinos, and the late Bess Ehrmann and the late Christine Cahalane.

Visiting hours will be held at the Lane Funeral Home 760 Main St. (Rte. 38) WINCHESTER on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 1-3pm. A funeral Service will be held at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 17 Meriam St., Lexington on Monday April 23, 2018 at 11am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment Mt.
