Obituary for Anthony J. DiRe

Anthony J.  DiRe
Di Re, Anthony of Mashpee and Winchester passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 16, 2018, he was 90 years old. Anthony was the oldest of five children born to Antonio and Adeline (Gargano) Di Re. Born in Cantalupo nel Sannio, Italy on February 20,1928 he came to America at the young age of eight. Anthony was the beloved husband of Virginia M (Cotone) Di Re for sixty seven years. The loving father of Debra Donnell and her husband John of Melrose, Paul Di Re and his wife Donna of Winchester, Brian Di Re and his significant other PK of Woburn. Anthony had nine grandchildren who were the light of his life. Anthony Di Re and his wife Samantha, Kate Merrill and her husband Brian, Michael Di Re, Ryan Donnell and his wife Stephanie, Amanda Di Re, Kyle Adragna and her husband Sal, Brandon Di Re, Remi Di Re, and Dylan Di Re. He also had three precious great grandchildren Hunter Rose Merrill, Brody Merrill, and Jackson Donnell. Dear brother of Mary Coffey and her husband Jim, Robert Di Re and his late wife Patricia, Richard and his late wife Barbara, and the late John Di Re. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Anthony was an army veteran who served in WWII. He resided in Watertown, MA until he moved to Winchester in 1963. He retired from High Voltage Engineering after 30 years of dedication. Anthony enjoyed his retirement with his beloved wife, where he loved hosting his family on Cape Cod during the summertime, and in Florida where he loved to escape the winter to play golf and cards with friends. He was a great chef, and was happiest when he was cooking for those he loved most. He was a sports fanatic, and the Patriots number one fan. He was a gentle, humble soul and will be sorely missed by all. His family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to his team at Compassionate Care and also the staff at The Gables at Winchester, where he was able to spend the last 10 months of his life in good company. A funeral will be held from the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main Street (Rt 38) Winchester, MA on Friday April 20th, at 10AM. Followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Church of Winchester at 11AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday April 19th from 5-8PM. Interment will be private.
