Condolence: I just heard of Dr.Stakes passing & wanted to send my condolences.
I was his patient for many years. He was the one who diagnosed my rare neurological disorder & was determined to find out what was wrong with me. Dr.Stakes was a kind, compassionate man, who cared very much about his patients. Just like my disorder he was "one in a million!"
He will be greatly missed! I will keep you all in my prayers.

Condolence: I have been a long term patient of Dr. Stakes. He has been a wonderful, kind, understanding, and loving physician. As a doctor myself, he made everything very collegial. I came to think of him as a friend. I always talked with him about other members of my family with medical issues. His knowledge of medicine was not just limited to neurology. One memory among many stands out that shows what an old school principled doctor he was. I needed an MRI for an issue that my orthopedic doctor wouldn’t order. John was furious and ordered it for me immediately, although he would get a black mark from the insurance companies. The well being of his patients was always foremost in his care. This resulted in a necessary operation that otherwise would never have happened.
This is a very painful loss for me, as it is for my wife and children, who have met him and knew him. My thoughts and feelings go out to John and his family. In short, he was a good man. There aren’t many like him.

Condolence: With the passing of Dr. Stakes the world has lost a disproportionate share of its character, intellect, humor and kindness. Dr. Stakes was unique among physicians. He treated the whole patient; not just neurologically, but medically. He was very kind, patient and generous with him time answering every question fully and never staring at the computer screen. He treated his patients with respect. He was never condescending or patronizing. It was my honor to have been his patient for many years. I am ever grateful for his diagnosis when many physicians could not. This is a painful, devastating loss. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, patients, and professional colleagues.
