Obituary for Yevgeny Yurkovetsky

Yurkovetsky, Yevgeny

PhD, age 47, of Winchester, MA died tragically on February 22nd in Dominican Republic. Beloved husband for 17 years of Natalia Yurkovetsky. Loving father of Daniel, 15 and Mary Ann, 9. Dear son of Arkady Yurkovetsky and Zinaida Selezneva of San Diego, CA. Devoted brother of Rita and her husband Ilya Tokman of San Diego, CA. Uncle of Rostislav and Andrew Tokman of San Diego, CA and Elizabeth Tsyplakova of Columbia, SC. Also survived by his aunt Inna Yurkovetsky and cousins Yelena, Irina and Sergei. Yevgeny also leaves behind his brother-in-law Sergey Tsyplakov and his wife Ludmila Tsypakova of Columbia, SC and parents-in-law Dmitry and Lydia Tsyplakov of Moscow, Russia.

Growing up in Odessa, former Soviet Union and now Ukraine, Yevgeny was always very curious about the world. His sister’s vivid memory from their childhood is 11-12 year old Yevgeny sitting on a couch in the living room with 4-5 open books and magazines around him. He was reading them all at the same time. He loved to read. Even when mom sent him outside to play with other kids, he would take a book with him and hide where nobody could see him and he could read. He also knew so much in so many different areas. Any question you had, you could ask Yevgeny and he most likely would have a right answer right away. Even friends much older than him admired him for that.

In his adult life, he followed his talents to become a scientist and engineer. In 1988, he graduated with distinction from an Engineering College in Odessa. In 1989 he and his family moved to the US. In 1997 he graduated with PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from California Institute of Technology. Yevgeny, an accomplished and innovative engineer, authored a number of scientific publications and patents. He is admired by his friends and colleagues who were fortunate enough to interact with him professionally, for his broad knowledge, scientific rigor, as well as his quiet sense of humor.

Yevgeny will forever be remembered as a man of kindness, integrity and a deep awareness of life and the world. He was quick to help and never to anger. He was married to Natalia Yurkovetsky for more than 16 years and they have two beautiful children. He was a protector and guarding angel of the family. Yevgeny was the happiest when he was spending time with his family and teaching his children math, science and music. His eyes always brightened up when he watched his children play piano. His many interests also included reading, traveling, photography and cooking.
Relatives, friends and colleagues are respectively invited to attend memorial service from 4-7pm on Tuesday, March 10 at Lane Funeral Home at 760 Main St, Winchester, MA 01890 (781) 729-2580.
