Condolence: Larry & Family - Here is the Eulogy from today: Dede touched all of us in so many ways; her beautiful smile and easy laugh, her caring, her kind words, her wisdom. I know everyone here benefited from those gifts. Dede was my cousin, but she was so much more than that to me, although, all of us cousins are, like our parents before us as much friends as we are relatives, the love we all have for each other transcends time and distance – and Dede, was the epitome of family. Dede was like the big sister I didn’t have. I looked up to her and admired her and called on her, and she was always there. She was always there for me and for my family – spending countless hours visiting my parents in their later days, always knowing what to do, what to say, a game of cards or scrabble with my Dad – she knew what he needed. Did she have more time than me; … no – she made more time. That was who she was. Was it just a gift she had? Or just a gift chose to share with so many? Did she come by this naturally, or was it because of her own early losses that made her value time and family and being kind to one another. So many people have said they never heard her say a bad word to or about anyone. She truly loved people and she loved family. I spoke to Dede a month or so ago. We talked about many things; life, death, love, and especially family. It was one of the most difficult, yet one of the most poignant conversations I ever had. Dede left us with many gifts. One gift she also left us with, is her family. Throughout the last few months, I have gained an enormous respect for them all. Larry, was by her side every minute of every day; trying so hard to keep everyone and everything together despite his own grief. The love and care he has shown, I will never forget. Karen, keeping everyone informed of what was going on and trying to remain strong for her own little family. Steven, Dennis, my heart goes out to all of you. When I spoke with Dede, I promised her, I would always be there for you, as she was for me and so many others. Losses like this can make us or break us – We are all broken inside today, but I know, if we can think about what Dede would do, I think that if we can all make an extra special effort to be there for each other a little more than we are used to, comfortable with; reach out, like Dede would – that I believe, is the greatest gift we can give back to her.
